South Coast Places for People Humanifesto

Who Are We?

We’re parents who want our kids to be able to bike safely around town. We’re older people who have fond memories of neighborhood bakeries and younger people who’d love to bring them back. We’re (sauna) block party people. We’re local developers, ready to build the housing our community needs. We’re small business owners who could use more foot traffic. We’re people who wish they had more places to walk to near home.  We live in the city. We live in the burbs. We’re renters. We’re home owners. We’re young and old, fancy and scrappy. We don’t all vote the same.

What Do We Want?

We want different types of places to live for all circumstances. We want safe, accessible and vibrant streets. We want to be able to walk, roll or bike to the places we need to go. We want to know our neighbors better, especially if they hold different views or have different backgrounds from us. We want to live the good life, filled with the kind of chance encounters, loose ties and close community that great neighborhoods can provide. We want to spend less time online and more time IRL. We want to make our communities better and have a good time doing it.

How Do We Move?

We learn together. We humbly observe where people in our community struggle and take collective action to address those struggles. We build big, fun tents. We amplify the efforts of others with whom we have common cause. We revel in all that is good in our communities, even as we work to make them better.

Come to a Meetup

We meet monthly. It’s casual, welcoming, and open to everyone. Whether you want to help shape a more walkable neighborhood or just see what this is all about, we’d love to see you.
